One of the perks that comes with moving is this idea of getting a clean slate to design your life on. What activities do you want to include? What relationships do you want to build? How do you want to spend your time? Moving allows for this natural fresh start, and with a bit of intentionality you can harness this season, even if you aren't in the middle of a move.
Spend some time dreaming and thinking about what you want your life to look like. Imagine a clean slate (an empty calendar) and visualize placing or writing each thing into your life. What do you want your days to be filled with? What friends will you be able to give/receive mutual support.
All of us have core values. Moving is a great time to assess your core values and see if your life aligns with them. What core values do you need to spend time on? Schedule these in.
ie. - marriage, schedule a weekly or twice a month date night. Homeschooling - choose a good book and schedule when you will read it, attend a home school conference, etc.. If you need ideas for how to make this a reality in your life, I would love to work with you and create a life-giving plan so you can thrive.
My core values include: marriage, homeschooling/parenting, personal growth/learning, travel, reading, optimal health/energy, spirituality.
We knew going into this move that our ability to travel (core value) would greatly increase in our new location. This was a big plus and we have been intentional about keeping margin in our schedule so we can travel once a month or so to visit family or our dear friends in FL.
Friendships and community played a huge role in the house/area we chose to live in. We have been blown away by how this decision has already surpassed our expectations. We chose a house that is a lot less functional for our needs, but on a block that has amazing families. This is an essential core value for this season in our life.
With all of these lofty ideals, moving also has a tendency to derail even the best of intentions. Its just a lot of work, period! This is where letting go of perfection, embracing the simple, and celebrating all of the successes that are happening becomes a great way to take care of your soul.. (thanks to my coach Kelly for tuning my heart into the art of celebrating!)
Some goals I set at the beginning of the year were: cook 4-5 dinners a week, exercise 4-5 times a week, walk daily, simplify, read out loud nightly to the kids, and plan a historical travel trip.. We experienced some sickness and a bit of fatigue with the move, so I am giving myself a lot of grace, but I am settling into a rhythm and I am well on my way to these goals.
Moving gave me a boost in my focus for the life I wanted to create and since intentionality is something I was already working on, the flow to jump back in made it easy to resume once I had enough space to do so.
So whether you are moving and want to utilize that journey to create a vibrant life or could use a boost in your intentionality, here is a good place to start.
So here is to setting out and doing one thing this week for your soul.
As always, I would love to hear from you in the comments. What are you going to do? What is your next step to intentionally create the life you love?
